The Dog Poo Disaster at My Wedding

So I got married last summer and honestly the day was supposed to be perfect. We had the reception in this really nice converted barn with a massive outdoor field next to it. It was a warm day so naturally people were drifting in and out, kids running around, guests chatting outside with their drinks.

Except no one told us the field next to the barn was basically a giant dog toilet. I don’t mean a little bit, I mean covered. At first we didn’t notice but then guests start coming back inside and there’s this smell. Like really bad. People thought maybe the bins or something, but then we saw it. Shoes. Dresses. Trousers. Dog crap literally trodden all over the wooden floor inside the venue.


It was everywhere. People were slipping, staff were running around with paper towels, one poor guest had it smeared up the back of his trousers from sitting down outside. I was mortified. The smell was awful, like you couldn’t escape it.

My husband tried to calm me down but I was BIG crying - my dress had a mark on the bottom from where I been outside too. My mum was furious at the venue, but they just kept apologising and saying they didn’t know (???). It was an open public field and apparently the country’s largest communal puppy potty! I feel the venue would definitely have been aware, surely this has happened before?


We paid so much money for that day and honestly it just felt ruined. I couldn’t stop thinking about the smell, the mess, the fact people will forever remember that. Like “oh yeah, your wedding was nice but remember the dog sh%t?”

Still angry months later tbh.
